Presentation of Colours Tidworth

1st August 1986 HRH Princess of Wale's Speech at the Presentation of Colours, at the Tattoo Ground Tidworth England.

"Royal Hampshire's! I am delighted that, as your Colonel - in - Chief, the Queen has invited me to present the 1st Battalion with new Colours on Her Majesty's behalf. The first of August has been observed by the Regiment as a very special day, the anniversary of one of its most historic Battle Honours and this particular Minden Day will always be remembered by me, and I'am sure, by you.

I have been greatly impressed by or appearance on parade, your drill, turn-out and performance of ceremonial. We have said good-bye, today, to Colours you have carried with distinction in Hong Kong, Malaya, Borneo, Cyprus, at several stations in Germany including Berlin and, of course, at many post in England and Northern Ireland. Everywhere you have been true to your Colours and to your own traditions. In entrusting to the Battalion's hands these new Colours I know that, whatever the duties demanded of you, you will perform them as you always have, and bring fresh honour to Colours on which triumphs of the past are already proudly borne".
